About the Classroom:

The Koala room offers a safe environment for your baby to young toddler to explore and grow. The Koala room teachers put effort into learning the likes, dislikes, and rhythms of each child in their care. This enables them to adapt each activity and the schedule of each day to meet the needs of the individual children with love. Feeding plans, as well as nap time, are designed to mirror what the infants receive at home. We provide an environment where the teachers react and tend to the needs of the children in a calm, respectful, caring way.

"The Koala room is a fun environment filled with a mix of laughter and tears. We support the growing emotional development of our babies and adapt to how they feel each day."

Cribs are designed for maximum safety. Both ends of the cribs are made of plexiglass, so teachers can see into the cribs with ease from all areas of the classroom. All staff in the building are trained annually on Safe Sleep practices, and those guidelines are strictly followed at BDLC.

The Koalas' classroom has a carpeted area for gentle play, a table with age and size appropriate chairs to work on independent eating, and cribs for naps. Koalas follow their own schedules for napping throughout the day. There are rocking chairs for cuddles and for nursing parents to use. The room also has a small slide with a ladder for gross motor skill development, coordination, and balance practice.

While in toddler and preschool classrooms you will find a common schedule that all children follow, in the Koala room, every child has his or her own individual schedule. All infants eat, sleep, and receive diaper changes on demand. The teachers continuously observe and tune into each infant’s cues regarding what they need, and when they need it. We respect each infant fully as the person they are, and you can feel at ease knowing that your baby is safe, well-loved, and happy.

Breastmilk and Formula

BDLC offers formula or families can provide a formula of their choice. Breastfeeding is fully supported at BDLC and mothers are welcome into the classroom to nurse anytime. The Koalas room is prepared to take fresh, refrigerated or frozen breastmilk. Families must bring their own bottles due to COVID-19 restrictions.
